STOP PRESS: Cambridge University Labour Club's newsletter is available to download here.
Cambridge is a fantastic place to be a student and I hope you enjoy your time here. I have held surgeries once a term at APU Advice Service and Cambridge University Student Union Offices. Many students contact me with their concerns about international development, world poverty and foreign affairs, as well as things that are troubling them on a more local level. I have listened to, and responded to these concerns, and would like to continue to represent students in Cambridge.
I was very active in amending the Higher Education Act to secure the best deal possible for students. The Higher Education Act will give more money to universities, putting their financing on a stable footing for the long term. The Act will also make going to university more affordable for students from all backgrounds.

The Facts
| Commitment | Under Labour we have seen record number of students in higher education. |
| Access | Labour believes that the best way to widen participation in higher education is to improve standards in secondary schools, and under this Government we have the best exam results at 14, 16 and A level. |
| Investment | Under the Labour Government, publicly planned funding for Higher Education institutions is increasing by £2.9 billion between 1997 and 2006 - 34% in real terms. |
| Reform | Variable fees will bring in around another £1.2 billion a year by 2010. This extra source of income will plug the funding gap which widened under the last Tory government. |
