Environment
Environmental issues matter to me, as they do to you.
I carried out a recycling and environment survey at the end of last year. Rubbish and recycling collections and the state of our streets are things that concern us all. You can find out more about my survey here. Cambridge residents also expressed their national and international environmental concerns in the survey, and you can find out more about what the Government is doing in key areas by clicking on the links on the left.
Labour's Environmental Achievements.
The UK under Labour is leading the world in tackling climate change, and on course to exceed our Kyoto target.
Under Labour we have record rates of household recycling (in England) - now 17%, up from 7.5% in 1997.
Under Labour we have the best-ever quality of beaches and bathing waters, and river and drinking water.
Rights of Way in the countryside have been made a reality by Labour, after a century of campaigning. We have announced a New National Park in the New Forest, the first since the 1950s.
Labour has added an area the size of Liverpool to the greenbelt, and is saving an area the size of Oxford by building at higher densities.
